Daydream Project + Artist Statement

Updated: Apr 19, 2022

With this project, I was attempting to bring a more comedic side to a traditionally very PG Disney film. I knew when I was working on this project that my animation skills were not the most top-tier, but I tried my best to lean into my strengths to help boost my animation. I wrote the script for each scene and enlisted my friend to help me voice the characters and bring them to life. When this project was first assigned I was nervous because I didn’t have any solid ideas come to mind immediately that I felt passionate about. Through some brainstorming and idea-sharing with friends, I stumbled upon the idea of more of an “R-rated” Disney film that would be relatable to college students around my age. I drew from my own experiences, as well as my friends and roommates to come up with some stereotypical college experiences that I could depict in my animation. I think that definitely, the most difficult part of this project was the animation, but I really wanted to challenge myself to create a lot of content. I watched a lot of tutorials, asked a lot of questions, and it was really empowering to be able to say that I created an animation piece. It is something I thought I would never be able to do, and although I am no DreamWorks, I am so proud that I was able to work through some challenges to arrive at this final destination. I think if I were to do something different I would try and take more time to make my animation less animatronic and robotic and more realistic and natural moving. I hope that in my free time post-graduation I can continue using after effects to create more animations for fun.
